“That ungrateful and perfidious people”. Anti-Semitism in the archaeological conferences of Pelegrí Casades (1905-1917)

L’objectiu d’aquest article es analitzar l’ideari antisemita de l’arqueòleg català Pelegrí Casades i Gramatxes, a partir de l’estudi de les seves memòries i del cicle de conferències que va pronunciar al Centre Excursionista de Catalunya entre 1905 i 1917. L’anàlisi demostra la pretensió de Casades de buscar en l’arqueologia arguments històrics que legitimessin el seu discurs d’odi contra els jueus.

The aim of this article is to analyze the anti-Semite ideology of the Catalan archaeologist Pelegrí Casades i Gramatxes, studying his memoirs and the lectures he gave at the Centre Excursionista de Catalunya between 1905 and 1917. The analysis carried out demonstrates the pretension of Casades to find archaeological arguments to legitimize his hate speech against the Jews.
